One of the largest cruise ships that comes to visit us is here today. It was in Guernsey yesterday and here today. It carries up to 800 people so it is busy in town today! Look how she dwarfs the tripper boats and even the HMS Mersey which you can see in the last photo! The HMS Mersey was here yesterday for the signing of the Armed Forces Community Covenant, which encourages communities to recognise the special requirements of military personnel, whether on active service, reservists or veterans. The ceremony took place on board the HMS Mersey, anchored in The Roads. The Council of the Isles of Scilly had the honour of becoming the final local authority in the UK to do so. Yesterday evening a service was held to commission the new covenant, led by Canon Paul Miller, with a sunset ceremony and lowering of the flag at Star Castle on the Garrison.
